Normal installation

Ok, let us get you hooked up. Download the app from your phone or push it from google plays webpage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost Then start the app. When you start the app it first connects to googles servers and gets a key. It then connects to my server at Android Lost.com and sends the key together with your email address. If all goes well you should see a quick popup message on the screen and a message saying "Registration completed".

Now go to http://www.androidlost.com and click sign in. The sign in is done at google and I do not get access to you password. You can verify this by looking at the url in the top of your browser - it should start with https://www.google.com/accounts

The very first time you login you should receive a popup message saying "Congratulations your phone is connected..."

Now let us try to use the remote control: click Controls->Alarm. If the alarm does not sound within a few seconds you can try to switch the wifi on for a few seconds. This usually wakes up the google push servers. If you have any trouble at all with the installation please have a look in the trouble shooting section further down.

Admin rights

If you wish to lock or wipe your phone sometime in the future you must accept the admin rights on the phone. This is one thing that can not be done remotely from the web page. You will be redirected to a second page where you must click activate. When that is done you can close the app and there should be no reason to open it again.

Remote installation

If you have already lost your phone and have not yet installed androidlost you still have a chance of using it. First push the app to the phone as described above. Then send an SMS with the text "androidlost register". This will startup the app, get a google push key and send it to the web server. You should now be able to sign in on http://www.androidlost.com and start the alarm.

Multiple devices

If you have multiple android devices under the same google login you can remote control them all from the web page. When you install the app on your second device the next time you sign in on the web page a dropdown box will appear right above your username. Be careful not to erase the wrong device!

F.A.Q:

Q:What are the requirements?
A:Android 2.2 or greater. Google play on phone.

Q:I cannot uninstall the app!
A:The reason why it is so hard to remove is that you have given the app administrator rights. This is part of the android API and not something I have done to annoy anyone. There are three ways to remove the admin rights:
From the web page click Gear icon->Phone->Unregister
OR
Open the app and press Menu->Advanced->Uninstall app
OR
Go to your phone settings under security and remove the admin rights: Menu->settings->location and security->select device administrators->uncheck personal notes

Any of the three ways should remove the admin rights and then you will be able to uninstall the app.

Q:Incorrect version
A:If you have upgraded your phone to the latest version but are still told that you have an old version you can get the server back in sync by doing one of these things:
* By starting the app
* From the app click Menu->Update Server
* From the web click Gear icon->Phone Info Update
* By SMS send 'androidlost updatephoneinfo'
* By changing the SIM card

If you still cannot make it work please follow the 'I cannot uninstall the app!' in this FAQ. Then uninstall the app and reinstall.

Q:Why do you need my google password?
A:I do not! I simply asks google to validate who you are. Please note that the page where you enter your password belongs to google. If you read the page carefully you will see that I never get hold of your password. You should never give away your password to anyone.

Q:I forgot my pincode!
A:Two solutions:
1. Click Logs and find out what pin code you have set
2. Remove the pincode by sending a blank pin code to the phone. Then the phone will be unlocked.

Q:I cannot install the app
A:If you have a HTC Tattoo google may say that you cannot install the app due to compatibility problems. Well, I do not know what that means but you can install the androidlost app directly from this web page by browsing to Get started from your phone.

Q:Waiting for phone to register
A:If you see this message right after you have logged in it means that the phone was not able to send the google key to ther server. To solve this start the app and press Menu->Update Server. Now try to log in to the server again.

Q:The phone will not register
A:It should only take a few seconds to register your phone by google. Let us see if we can solve this.
Let us try to register it again by following these steps:

1. Make sure your phone is on the net. Browse a webpage or something.
2. start androidlost on the phone
3. click menu->advanced
4. click re register at google
5. login to the webpage http://www.androidlost.com on your browser. If you are already logged in please log out first and then log in again. You should get a 'Congratulations..' message when you log in the first time. This will mean that your phone is connected to your web page. You must use the samme email address on the webpage that is installed on the device.
